Participants in Life Adventure Center’s youth riding programs learn about horse care and hunt-seat riding in a supportive, educational environment. In addition to teaching riding skills, the equine staff utilizes horses as a tool to teach and enhance important life skills and promote positive character traits. Throughout the session, participants learn how to communicate and build trust with their horses through natural horsemanship groundwork exercises, develop vocational skills such as grooming, bandaging, and taking vital signs, and ride in hunt-seat group lessons. Students also reflect on the day’s activities through journal writing, and relate what they have learned with the horses to real life situations.
Our Equine Center has an outdoor and indoor arena, making riding lessons
possible in all types of weather. No prior horse experience is necessary,
just a desire to learn and have fun! Our well-trained school horses
are appropriate for a variety of skill levels, from beginner through
advanced.
The program sessions are semester-long and meet once a week, in a 2-hour format. Each session ends with a “demonstration” horse show to give the students an opportunity to show family and friends what they have learned.
